Lighthouse Consulting offers specialized consulting services to address the equity concerns of public schools, community based organizations and businesses in Washington State. Janet and Stephan Blanford, as Principal Consultants at Lighthouse Consulting,  have extensive experience steering  such organizations towards more equitable outcomes.

About Janet

As both a practitioner and student of leadership and equity, Dr. Blanford has led several local nonprofits as well as studying leadership within equitable organizations. LIGHTHOUSE has provided  consultation support to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, principals and administrators of the largest school districts in the State of Washington and nonprofit organizations throughout the region.
 
He is certified as an Equity Coach by the National Equity Project, co-leads the popular Race and Leadership Dialogues in Seattle and is a reviewer for the Journal of African American Males in Education. Dr. Blanford has dual appointments as a lecturer at his two most recent alma maters, the College of Education and the Evans School of Public Affairs on the University of Washington (Seattle) campus, and has led workshops at several conferences, most recently at the Educators for Social Justice conference in Seattle and the Race and Pedagogy conference.
 
Striving to live his values and belief in leadership for social justice, Stephan was recently elected to the Seattle School Board., providing oversight and governance for a 52,000 student, $1 Billion urban school district. He also serves on the Board of Directors of United Way of King County, the nation's largest United Way organization.
 
 
Janet Blanford brings powerful experience gained at every level of K-12 education to LIGHTHOUSE Consulting.
 
After 15 years in the classroom in schools throughout Seattle, she graduated to teaching teachers before helming Seattle Public Schools' College and Career Readiness efforts. While in this role, she advised the City of Seattle's Office of Education, eventually serving in a consulting capacity there.
 
Seeking new challenges, she recently embarked on a half year sabbatical teaching English to Chinese primary school students. She also collaborated with Chinese educators on professional development projects to promote cross-cultural understanding of educational best-practices while living with Delaney Blanford in Chongqing, China..
 
Janet brings strong facilitation, organizational and leadership development skills to every project.  Her  motivation to improve outcomes for the underserved in our society is the shining beacon that is LIGHTHOUSE Consulting.
 

About Reesie

Serving as Vice President of Company Morale, Reesie was named after the famous candy whose colors are similar to his coat. He is a lazy, 4-year old Boxer that keeps the ship of state afloat and everyone on an even keel.
